From the Pastor

Greetings Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church!

I am looking forward to meeting all of you!  Even though I have been serving in Topeka these past four years, I am also looking forward to learning about a different part of the city, and learning more about the amazing things God is doing through Pleasant Hill UMC.  I have known several of the youth from Pleasant Hill through serving at Institute, and they have always had amazing things to say about their home church!

My husband and I live just north of Lawrence on ten acres, with a huge garden, a small flock of chickens, and two goats.  Because my husband works in Lawrence, and because a large garden takes years to cultivate, we will continue to live in our current home when I begin serving at Pleasant Hill.  But I want to assure you that the commute is no problem for me, and I will be present in Topeka for community activities on a regular basis.

I know that Pastor Jin served at Pleasant Hill for seven years – this is a long time in the UMC’s system of itinerant clergy.  I also know that Pastor Jin and his family were well-loved by the congregation.  I want to name and honor that there is grief around Pastor Jin moving, and I hope to help make space for that grief in ways that are healthy and appropriate.  While I have no doubt that Pastor Jin and I will do many things differently, I will do my best to learn and adapt to what works best at Pleasant Hill.  Transitions are never easy, but I hope to make the transition as smooth as possible.  I look forward to getting to know all of you, and serving Christ alongside you.

 Blessings –

Pastor Kara Eidson
