Unexpected ‘surprise’ lands at Pleasant Hill UMC

Teachers and students entering the parking lot at Pleasant Hill UMC were treated to the surprise of hot air balloons floating over the field next to the church.

A handful of colorful balloons huffed their way across 46th street to land.  However, one lone balloon landed in the field right beside the church.  In no time, the Sunday school plans had changed to include balloon-handling.

Children and their teachers were encouraged to gather around the balloon named “Breaking Dawn.”  They got their first lessons on how hot air balloons fly.  Then the PHUMC kids were part of the packing of the massive balloon for its next journey.

“Breaking Dawn” is a part of the Great Plains Balloon Club of Topeka.

The winds have welcomed you with softness

The Sun has blessed you with his warm hands

You have flown so high and so well,

That God has joined you in your laughter

And He has set you gently back again into the loving arms of Mother Earth.

(Balloonist’s prayer)
