Hymn #310 “He Lives”

1. I serve a risen Savior, He’s in the world today;

I know that He is living, Whatever foes may say.

I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,

And just the time I need Him, He’s always near.

He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!

He walks with me and talks with me

along life’s narrow way.

He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!

You ask me how I know He lives?

He lives within my heart.2. In all the world around me

I see His loving care,

And though my heart grows weary,

I never will despair.

I know that He is leading

through all the stormy blast;

The day of His appearing will come at last.

He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!

He walks with me and talks with me

along life’s narrow way.

He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!

You ask me how I know He lives?

He lives within my heart.

3. Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian,

lift up your voice and sing

Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!

The hope of all who seek Him,

the help of all who find;

None other is so loving, so good and kind.

He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!

He walks with me and talks with me

along life’s narrow way.

He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!

You ask me how I know He lives?

He lives within my heart.

THE EASTER STORY

Matthew 28:1-10, 16-20 (NRSVUE)

After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning,

Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the

tomb. 2 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an

angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled

back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like

lightning and his clothing white as snow. 4 For fear of him

the guards shook and became like dead men. 5 But the

angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that

you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not

here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the

place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples,

‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going

ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my

message for you.” 8 So they left the tomb quickly with fear

and great joy and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus

met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took

hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said tothem, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers and sisters

to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain

to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him,

they worshiped him, but they doubted. 18 And Jesus came

and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has

been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all

nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the

Son and of the Holy Spirit 20 and teaching them to obey

everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I

am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Easter Devotion by Pastor Marge

Hymn # 322 “Up From the Grave He Arose”

1. Low in the grave he lay, Jesus my Savior,

waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave he arose;

with a mighty triumph o’er his foes;

he arose a victor from the dark domain,

and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.

He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

2. Vainly they watch his bed, Jesus my Savior,

vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave he arose;

with a mighty triumph o’er his foes;he arose a victor from the dark domain,

and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.

He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

3. Death cannot keep its prey, Jesus my Savior;

he tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave he arose;

with a mighty triumph o’er his foes;

he arose a victor from the dark domain,

and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.

He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

I feel him doing it now, do it now, do it now.

This is the sound of dry bones rattling,

Children’s Time “All Night, All Day”

All night, all day, angels watching over me, my Lord. All night, all

day, angels watching over me. All night, all day, angels watching

over me, my Lord. All night, all day, angels watching over me.

Reading from the New Testament: Colossians 3:1-17 (NRSVUE)

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above,

where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on the

things that are above, not on the things that are on earth, 3 for you have

died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is

your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

5 Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: sexual immorality,

impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). 6 On account

of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are

disobedient. 7 These are the ways you also once followed, when you were

living that life. 8 But now you must get rid of all such things: anger,

wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. 9 Do not

lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its

practices 10 and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is

being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. 11 In

that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and

uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, enslaved and free, but Christ is all

and in all!

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves

with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13 Bear

with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive

each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must

forgive. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything

together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your

hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be

thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and

admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts

sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. 17 And whatever you do,

in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving

thanks to God the Father through him.

Reading from the Gospel: John 20:1-18 (NRSVUE)

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary

Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed

from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other

disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken

the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid

him.” 3 Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the

tomb. 4 The two were running together, but the other disciple outran

Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent down to look in and saw the

linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter

came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings

lying there, 7 and the cloth that had been on Jesus’s head, not lying with

the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other

disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and

believed, 9 for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must

rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples returned to their homes.

11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over

to look into the tomb, 12 and she saw two angels in white sitting where

the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the

feet. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to

them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they

have laid him.” 14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw

Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said

to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?”

Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have

carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him

away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in

Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do

not touch me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go tomy brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your

Father, to my God and your God.’ ” 18 Mary Magdalene went and

announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and she told them

that he had said these things to her.

Sermon “I’ve Seen the Lord” by Pastor Marge

Praise Song “Man on the Middle Cross”

I heard the preacher talking about three wooden crosses

upon a hill for everyone to see. Two sinners on the outside,

couldn’t save themselves if they tried.

All I could think is, “Man that sounds like me.”

I’ve been the one on the left, full of guilt and regret, long-gone on

the wrong side of living. I’ve been the one on the right, always

looking for a fight, thinking I could never be forgiven. I’m

standing here today, overwhelmed by grace, ’cause I know who

paid my cost. Thank God for the Man on the middle cross.

He didn’t have to do it, but for me, He went through it. A love like

that, I’ll never understand. Lord knows I don’t deserve it, and I

know I couldn’t earn it, let mercy rain down on this desperate

Man.

The cross is where He went, oh, but that ain’t where He stayed.

He brought me back to life when He rose up outta that grave.

Someday I’ll stand before Him and I’ll see Jesus face to face.

I’ll worship and adore Him for a life forever changed.

† Please stand as you are able.

The Light of Christ Goes Before Us into the World

1. Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne,

Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.

Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee,

and hail him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

2. Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o’er the grave,

and rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save.

His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high,

who died, eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

3. Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter sways

from pole to pole, that wars may cease,

and all be prayer and praise.

His reign shall know no end, and round his pierced feet

fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

4. Crown him the Lord of love; behold his hands and side,

those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified.

All hail, Redeemer, hail! For thou hast died for me;

thy praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity.
